Dear CIS Community,

Over the last several years our school has brought the very best of educational practice to our students and is very proud of the results obtained with the Ontario program in PK-I0. It is our view that this effort continues to require refinement as we work on better preparing our students for success in the IB Diploma Program in grades 11 & 12. This year we have investigated ways to increase the academic rigor in grades 9 & 10.

The Board of Directors in conjunction with the '08-'09 School Leadership Team have come to the conclusion that adding the IGCSE program in grades 9 & 10 will meet the needs of our students and community

This move is designed to bring a higher level of academic rigor along with the strong reputation of IGCSE to our program while preserving the fundamental values and teaching practices of the Ontario curriculum. It is our belief that this program will better prepare our students for success in the IB Diploma program.

This move to IGCSE will commence with the start of the 0809 school year and will involve:

  • Careful alignment of curriculums (Ontario & IGCSE).
  • Aggressive teacher and administration training along with consultation with CIE (starting this summer).
  • Detailed community orientation to the IGCSE program at the start of the 0809 school year. A parent/student information session will be held early in the next school year and this will be led by our new Head of School, Mr. Christopher Edmunds.
  • Resource acquisition throughout the year to ensure proper program delivery.
  • Full implementation with the 2009-10 school year.

The IB Diploma Program will continue to be our premier program in Grades 11 and 12. The Canadian International School will continue to award the Ontario Secondary School Diploma to graduates as the accreditation process with Council of International Schools and New England Association of Schools and Colleges is completed.

These are exciting times to be a part of the CIS community. Thank you for your support.

Sincerely,

Jim Leahy

Principal/Head of School
