SECONDARY
The Canadian International School is a true "international" school in that we follow two internationally recognized curricula and employ a majority of foreign trained and experienced teachers. Our method of instruction is student centered and our teachers provide an atmosphere that is conducive to active learning. Although the text books used are approved by the Ministry of Education, Ontario, Canada and the International Baccalaureate Organization, Geneva Switzerland the courses are neither Canada-centric nor text determined.

The assessment, evaluation and reporting is based on clearly stated curriculum expectations and achievement criteria. Achievement charts for each discipline provide a reference point for all assessment practices and the framework within which to assess and evaluate student achievement.

CIS is an overseas inspected private school, authorized by the Ministry of Education in Ontario to grant secondary school credits and the Ontario Secondary School Certificate. Each year an Education Officer from the Ministry spends a week at CIS to evaluate procedures and practices to ensure compliance with standards set in Canada. Courses of study, assessment practices, examinations, students’ work, teachers’ lesson plans and student records are some of the materials that are examined.
