Early Years(Pre Kg – Grade 1)
Children’s early learning years are the most captivating, with the child’s receptivity to new experiences and the capacity to learn at their peak.
The Early Childhood Program at the Canadian International School, Bangalore, comprises of Pre Kindergarten, Junior Kindergarten and Senior Kindergarten. It recognizes the important skills, knowledge and attitudes that children acquire during the early years. The program in a child-centered, activity-oriented environment provides opportunities for the child to:
- Adjust to new learning situations
- Develop skills and concepts appropriate to the level of maturity
- Strengthen a feeling of self esteem, confidence and independence
- Learn new routines and accept responsibilities
- Encourage and provide opportunities for learning through play
- Respect others and learn the meaning of unity within a multicultural society
- Adopt healthy habits and safety rules
- Make the transition to the next level within the ECE program and onto Grade 1.
Objectives of the Program
- Use of enriched academic resources like the DLM Early Childhood Program, Letterland in the Pre K and JK Programs. SRA Language Arts and Phonics is added on in SK.
- A cohesive teaching plan, incorporating team teaching to cover all three sections- Pre K, JK, SK.
- Montessori instruction is provided to all 3 levels.
- A detailed reporting and conference structure for each child three times annually.
- Involvement with Elementary section activities, and sharing of personnel
- Making the parent body active participants in the education of their children
- Providing full support to the PTA Committee
- Incorporating the Jenny Mosley Quality Circle Time module to enhance self-esteem
- Providing closure to the terms by showcasing the children's work.
Program Content
- The ECE program is designed to help children to broaden their base of information, form concepts, acquire foundation skills and positive attitudes to learning and begin to develop their abilities and talents in a wide range of areas.
- The program is modeled on the Kindergarten Program Handbook-Ontario Ministry of Education, Primary Years Program, and Montessori instruction by qualified personnel.
- It is also designed to prepare children to move onto the next level, and for the Senior Kindergarten to meet the expectations for Grade 1.
- Learning expectations include the child's development of literacy, knowledge and skills in Mathematics and Science.
These expectations are achieved through activities that integrate all learning

Grades 9 to 10
We provide academic courses in grade 9 and 10 following the curriculum set out by the Ontario Ministry of Education. It is an excellent preparation for the IB Diploma program offered in Grade 11 and 12 .
From August 2009 CIS is introducing, for our Grade 9 students, the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) provided by Cambridge International Examinations (CIE). The two-year IGCSE programme is the world's most popular international qualification for 14–16 year olds. It develops successful students, giving them excellent preparation for their next steps in education, progression to the IB Diploma, and equips them with skills for immediate employment.
